FHI 360 Website (2013)

My role: Information Architect, requirements gathering and definition, wireframing, prototypes, UX and content strategy, accessibility and low-bandwidth recommendations, QA and user acceptance testing for final product

Information Architect for large-scale web redesign of FHI360.org. As the Information Architect on this project, I worked with the client extensively to refine project requirements and create navigational models, interactive wireframe prototypes, content relationship diagrams, requirements briefs and other visually-oriented IA deliverables. Designed UX for 3000+ interlinked research and project documents throughout website. Provided navigational and layout models for responsive mobile design and low-bandwidth version. Worked with design and programming teams to ensure adherence to UX and content strategy during deployment of this highly customized Drupal-powered website. fhi360.org

My role: Plugin design and creation, WordPress/PHP and Javascript coding

Created WordPress plugin for sale on CodeCanyon. The plugin disables theme and plugin editors which can cause problems security, intellectual property, stability, and design integrity.

Bubbly Crowdsourcing Platform (2010-2012)

My role: Specs, Prototyping, Lead Developer, App Designer

Designed and developed network of WordPress-powered community websites that are used by small towns and communities to create ideas and energy for smart growth and positive change. These sites use Bubbly, a powerful web-based plugin app that I created and built. Bubbly is an online community where members register, submit ideas, vote and discuss ideas, and more. The back-end administrators have access to reporting on user feedback, user databases, and more.

FonQuiz mobile study and trivia app (2011-2012)

Created educational iPhone app with jQuery Mobile and PhoneGap API where users take an interactive quiz. Launched iPhone and Android versions of app and generated a Kindle e-book version from database. The quizzes are built dynamically using a WebKit-based SQLite database of questions, answers, and other information, which administrators can create using a web-based JavaScript/PHP interface. fonquiz.com

Co-op America’s Green Festival Photo Booth (2006)

My role: Web Design, Production.

Looking for a fun and interactive event for Co-op America’s booth at the Green Festival, Co-op America decided to have a photo booth where people could write up their favorite “Green” thing to do on a whiteboard, then have their photo taken. Then we wanted to give each participant a number they could use to look their photo up on our website. I helped the team make this idea into reality by designing and producing the website, and worked with another programmer to automatically resize the photos and put them into a database.

Co-op America’s Green Festival Getaway Sweepstakes (2006)

My role: Strategy, Web Design, Production, Web Programming.

Co-op America’s first-ever online sweepstakes offered a free trip to the Green Festival in San Francisco, complete with a stay in a green hotel, meals at green restaurants, and more. We used the Green Festival Getaway to attract new visitors to Co-op America’s website, learn more about green consumers, and spread the word about Green Festival.

National Green Pages – Search Results (2006)

My role: Strategy, Web Design, Production, Web Programming.

Co-op America’s flagship publication, the National Green Pages, had a lackluster website that visitors found difficult to search and browse. I worked with the technology, marketing, and publications departments and multiple interdepartmental teams to coordinate a redesign of the Green Pages Online. The new product is more attractive and easier to search and use.

Co-op America Homepage (2006)

Co-op America’s homepage didn’t offer enough real estate to feature all of our news and campaigns, plus it had a higher bounce rate than desired. We decided to infuse it with more content, provide easier access to the website for the National Green Pages, Co-op America’s flagship publication, and add more links where visitors could donate to the organization. After a series of strategic meetings and a collaborative design process, we launched a new homepage in April of 2006.

Co-op America Total Web Redesign (2005)

Working on-staff for Co-op America (now known as Green America), launched redesigned ColdFusion website and migrated 10+ microsites into new unified brand. Site included a membership and donation system integrated with a SQL Server database, and national green business directory with thousands of listings maintained by staff, four publications, online campaigns, and more.

Created Flash animation to promote TV Turnoff Week, 2001. The work that I did on this animation included creation of the concept, storyboarding, illustration, and Flash creation with Macromedia Flash 5. I also used Adobe Illustrator in the storyboarding and illustration phases.

Edington, Peel, and Associates Website (2001)

My role: Web designer.

Created website for Washington D.C. based Government Relations firm. The firm wanted to update their existing web site with a look that was clean and modern. Working with members of the firm to create the site’s color scheme and overall look, I used Adobe Photoshop and ImageReady to build the layout then created pages using Dreamweaver. EdingtonPeel.com

Created Client Control Center websites for high profile managed web hosting clients. The secure websites included change control for site configuration updates, user management, and an automated document repository. I collaborated with operations specialists and project managers at PSINet to write original Perl CGI scripts and modules and Javascripts to design and implement the websites to the company’s specifications.

Children’s Parliament for the Environment Website and Streaming TV Show (1999)

My role: Web design, programming.

Designed streaming media website for British Parliament event. This website was designed provide online coverage of a 1999 event during which children from all over England came together to speak to the British Parliament about environmental issues. I created the website for TV onthe WEB, a now-defunct streaming media startup company. I used Photoshop and Dreamweaver to create the images and HTML code. The site featured Real Video content and photos.

Designed an online gallery to showcase the work of an artisan tilesetter. The site features an photo gallery of her two and three dimensional work and a bio of the artist. I designed the site in Photoshop, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver using ideas from both myself and the client.

Morgan Car Club of Washington DC Website (1997)

My role: Web design.

Designed web site for Regional British sports car club. The website includes information about upcoming club events, registration information, and links for Morgan enthusiasts. The design and concept is mine. When the website was complete I taught members of the club how to update the website using Macromedia Dreamweaver.

Cox Farms (1997)

My role: Web design.

Designed web site for local farm market chain. The website includes directions to store locations, store hours, current news about the business, and an online brochure about the store’s annual Fall Festival. Most artwork was created by staff illustrators. I scanned and colored the artwork using Adobe Photoshop. I created and storyboarded the website’s original animations using Adobe Photoshop and ImageReady.
